Tutor's Blog

THE BIGGEST THANK YOU....

We’d like to say an ENORMOUS thank you to our wonderful students for their performances last night at St Georges Hall in the Concert Room.

We knew it would be good but the quality FAR SURPASSED our expectations even, with each and every student raising the bar and meeting the significant challenge full on!

We haven’t waded through all of the Facebook notifications yet but commencing it now, but aside from the comments about the beautiful venue etc., the main feedback we are getting is that the growth in musical development, and ability has been massive in the last 12 months, something that we can’t agree more over!

I would like to thank the vocal students also, for allowing me to play for you which was an absolute privilege.  I’ve said it many times before - the quality of performing live and being able to adapt and make performances your own, in an environment where things can go wrong is an INVALUABLE experience, especially in comparison to singing with dodgy tracks!

I’d like to thank Georgia.  It’s been a whirlwind and exciting 12 months, and thank you so much for inspiring the kids, and in particular for bringing to life a wonderful choir of our students in 4 part harmony, something I’ve wanted to see for so long.  Hard work behind (and in front) of the scenes NEVER goes un-noticed.

Thank you to our very own Toby, - so refreshing to see a performance where the sound engineer doesn’t let us down! and you delivered on a big scale last night.  The comments of the sound in the room being crisp,, clean and excellent.  You did us proud mate.

Thank you to our photographer: Matt Laraway - we’re so excited to see the photographs next Friday, so please guys stay tuned to our website, and social media pages for more on this.  Matthew’s images never disappoint, and we’re looking forward to having a reasonably priced memory of the experience!

Thank you to Caroline, for stepping in last minute and pretty much managing our backstage.  An oversight on my part initially due to focussing on the musical elements!  You were an absolute star.

Thank you to the staff of St Georges Hall, each and every one of them, and to Sharon and Andy our event managers who helped bring it to life last night.

Thanks to my gorgeous wife, for her support, patience, and mostly for allowing me to live my dream, which I definitely did through those students last night.

And finally, thank you so much to you our friends and clients.  Your support is NEVER taken for granted… Thanks for the encouragement you give to your own (and therefore to us), and for the time outside of the 30 mins a week that you spend lifting up, supporting, sometimes pushing to practise (!). Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.

If you have shared videos of performances, I would kindly ask you to make these public (top right corner) then we can share to a wider audience if you feel comfortable.

Peace and Love,

Adam, Georgia & All at ACSME

Paul: Vice Principal

We are delighted to confirm the promotion of Paul to Vice Principal of ACSME.

Paul has been with us teaching guitar and bass guitar, 6 days a week for the last 6 years, demonstrating professionalism, loyalty and of course, excellence.

With a large schedule of students, who would say that Paul is someone who inspires them to succeed, and takes pride in his mentoring, there is really no better candidate for this position.

Paul will take responsibility as main point of contact for overseeing quality and management of the following teaching areas: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Music Tech & Ukulele.

In the meantime please be assured that Paul will still be teaching Guitar & Bass as normal within the school.

Thank you Paul!  We look forward to the future!

New Group Singing Class...

Hi Everyone!

It's my first blog post, and I'm using it to make you aware of my new Group Singing Class with a purpose!!

There are so many benefits to learning how to effectively sing in groups, but the ones I consider the most important are:

  • Learning to harmonise
  • Learning to blend
  • Learning to communicate musically with instrumentalists and fellow vocalists

On top of this, there are clear other benefits such as the social elements, FUN(!), and even the positive effect on your health!

Although some sort of group singing class was discussed before, I didn't start this class up on a 'whim' but waited until I had considered each of my students individually, and put the time and planning into making sure it will be genuinely successful and positive for you all.

Like all things with your musical study, if you put the time and more importantly effort into it the rewards are great.  You get out what you put in, and I will be there to support each of you.

You may already know that we have a big performance coming up around Christmas time, and I want you all to feel comfortable and confident in this, and really enjoy this fantastic and crucial part of being a more professional vocalist.

The class is inclusive, and begins on Sunday 17th September at 1pm-2pm in the upper room at the school.  Each session costs £5.00.

Please trust me with this progress and lets work together to be the best that we can be!

Register your place via my email (georgia@adamchristophermusic.com) or usual mobile number, ASAP. - We have a lot to do!

See you all soon.

September Re-Boot!

Private Music lessons restart this Monday!

Coming back to lessons after the 6 week break can be refreshing, even invigorating, but can also be daunting, as a singer or instrumentalist, as you may have lost your way a little over the Summer.  Don't worry! this is normal and we see it all the time.

It's therefore important to reflect and give your study fresh focus, so that your lessons are as time- & cost-effective for you as they can be.  To help with this, I've put together a few pointers, which should be helpful for all students to consider!

1. WARM UP

If you've not been to your instrument or sang over the Summer at all, do some scales and exercises at the very least to get dexterity back into your fingers or flexibility back into those vocal chords.  This way you shouldn't be taking so much of a backwards step coming to your first lesson.

2. REPERTOIRE

There's nothing more frustrating as a teacher, than when students return after a break, and are asked "what pieces/songs would you like to work on this term?" and the response is a shoulder-shrug or a blank face!  I want and expect from my students at least 3 'own choice' or 'free choice' pieces or songs, that you genuinely would like to work on as target pieces.  You can't leave it just to your tutor to make such a personal decision for you, and as an aspiring musician, you shouldn't want to.  Grab a pen if you're forgetful, and use this week to get it done!

3. PURPOSE

Coming to music lessons without purpose is a waste of time and money for everyone involved.  Perhaps it's time to revisit why you're taking lessons in your chosen study, and what brought you to love it in the first place.  This is only really relevant if you've done nothing for 6 weeks.

We have so much as a school to concentrate on and look forward to this term, but here's a handful:

  • MUSIC EXAMS: RSL exam entries for this term close on the 1st October, and ABRSM on 29th September.  These exams have proven to not be easy to pass without hard work, but incredibly rewarding when you do well, and useful for your future.  more on this coming soon!
  • HIGHER EDUCATION: At this time of year we start to prepare for auditions, and entries to music colleges and universities throughout the country for the following academic year.  Don't dump this on your tutor last minute! take the chance to prepare effectively together.
  • PERFORMANCES: Want to steady those nerves? Want to be more effective when you perform publicly? Want to make your family proud? All these and more are reasons to secure yourself as a performer if this is your goal.  Leave no stone unturned and mention to your tutor that you'd like to focus on this for a bit.  As a rough guide, our next large performances are the Guitar/Bass/Drums show around October half term, and this year a large scale formal show for Pianists and Vocalists close to Christmas.

That's it!  I so look forward to seeing you all, finding out what you've been up to and developing you this year!  Let's not take our foot off the gas - bring your expectations to me/your teacher at your first lesson, and we'll do everything we can to meet them this year.

Peace & Love, AC
